ant attack

Question
QUESTION: to jack
i had brought somthing in from out side then found out that
it had ants all in and now there all in my room they are
also on the fish tank i vaccumed them up and sprayed for them. But nothing worked can you help me? thanks!

ANSWER: Anthony,

Everything you did was fine. I'm assuming that you took whatever it was that had the any colony (a potted plant?) back outside. The best thing is to thoroughly vacuum the room. No need to use insecticides as these ants won't establish a nest inside. The ants are probably harmless unless you live in the southeastern US in which case they could be fire ants (if they were fire ants you would have already been stung). Just continue to clean up ants as you spot them. If you are curious about fire ants take a look at this page http://www.livingwithbugs.com/fire_ant.html for information about where they occur.

I hope this is useful.

QUESTION: is ok to put bug spray on plants or no

Answer
Some insecticides are registered for use on plants but in this case none are needed. However,if you decide to use insecticides indoors I only recommend the botanical (plant oil) based products. Take a look at this page http://www.livingwithbugs.com/botanical_insecticide.html for information about these relatively safe pesticides.
