Slimey goo on sunflowers

Question
I have sunflowers growing in my garden. I have notice that there are white slimey goo near the flower heads and under the leaves near the flowers. Please tell me what it is and how do I get rid of it?

Answer
The goo is most likely the excretion from slugs. Slugs leave a trail of their excretion on flowers and leaves. You can eliminate them by sprinkling iron phosphate at the base of the plants and on the flowers. Two organic products that contain iron phosphate and are highly effective are Ecsar-Go and Sluggo. You can purchase these products either through on-line companies such as Gardens Alive and Planet Natural, or through your local garden center.

Good luck, and please write again if i can ever provide assistance.

Mike
