My Butterfly bush has the leaves all lacey.  New this year.  What can I use that will not harm the birds and butterflies?

There are a number of things that could cause this from insect or slug feeding to hail damage. Have you seen anything feeding on the leaves? Are the holes smooth or ragged? Are the holes uniform in size? Post a picture if possible and I may be able to help sort out what caused the damage.
