snails

Question
We have so many snails , on the house , on the carport, on the outside furniture, they seem to be everywhere!  How do I get rid of them for good?  Don't know if it matter's , we live in South Florida.

Answer
Pamela,

Snails (and slugs, their shell-less cousins) are often attracted to water so my first suggestion is to reduce the amount of landscape irrigation. My second suggestion is to reduce the number of snails in the area with poison baits that contain iron phosphate (don't use baits that contain metaldehyde as these are toxic to pets and wildlife). See http://www.livingwithbugs.com/slugs.html for background info about snails and follow the links to bait info.

Snail management is a long-term project so you'll need to apply baits at least several times a year, probably every year. You should also contact you Extension office in Florida (http://solutionsforyourlife.ufl.edu/) for their suggestions.
