Nepenthes and snails

Question
1) Nepenthes maximus
2) Partial Shade, partial Sun
3) Puerto Rico
4) Not available.

I already know my plant has snails, since I've seen them. I suspect they're
attacking the roots, because I didn't see the snails until I gave the plant a
heavy watering.  It would explain the systematically browning and dying
leaves/pitchers as no damage was done to them. What poisons or snail bait
can be used on nepenthes?

Answer
Hi Maria,

You can't really put slug or snail bait down in the soil, so you'll need to transplant to see if you can physically remove the snails and eggs.  After that you can put bait around the pots to help prevent this.  Having the plants up off the ground can help also.

Two commercial types of bait are available.  The most common types are based on a chemical called Metaldehyde.  This is in most pellets, and liquids such as Deadline.  It works very well.  Less toxic types contain Iron phosphate.  Sluggo is a brand example.  They work well also, but kill slower.

Good Growing!
