lots of tiny, fast bugs on pillow in cuba

Question
Hi, I was recently in Cuba, staying at a very nice hotel. However, when I went to bed, I noticed about 12-15 very tiny, very fast bugs traveling all over my pillow. I think they were grey-ish colored. i quickly got rid of my pillow (and my roommate's pillow, which did not seem infested), checked both of the beds (my bed had just one or two), and called for new pillows. Also, for the record, the room was a little damp although not where the beds were. I'm totally grossed out. Was it lice?  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Nancy,

This sounds more like mold mites than lice. Lice don't normally leave their hosts. Mold mites are often found in damp situations (see http://www.livingwithbugs.com/mold_mites.html for a drawing and life history). The mites are harmless but usually indicate a moisture problem which apparently was true about this hotel.
