Winterizing 1st year rhubarb in garden.

Question
I have planted a rhubarb earlier this year in spring.  It now is full of leaves.  We had a freeze point this last week but it was just a few degrees under.  What do I need to do to ensure that it is going to survive for next year?

Answer
Get some composted manure and add about four inches around the plant. When the leaves are all dead, you could remove them and add another couple of inches. This will mulch it and feed it for the winter.  Repeat in the early spring when first leaves begin to come up.  They love manure.  Water even in the winter if it is dry, so the plant roots can continue to feed.
