Steer Manure On Fruit Trees

Question
I Have A Couple Of Fruit Trees That I Wanted To Put On Bigger Pots And My Question Was Can I Mix In Steer Manure In The Bigger Pot. I Seen The Steer Manure At My Local Hardware Store It Is A 1 Cubic Foot Bag And Was Thinking Mixing It With Another Cubic Foot Of All Purpose Soil. Will That Be Ok For The Fruit Tree Or Is It Bad For It?

Answer
Dear Oscar:

Manures may contain harmful salts and should be applied in fall or early winter so that rains can dilute the salts and move them through the roots at a time of year when they will do less damage.  I recommend avoiding the use of steer manure because of its heavy salt content.  Suggest you carefully read the label on the bag to determine the salt content and other cautions before buying and using it on your fruit trees.
