brown or scorched areas

Question
My lawn was sodded in Oct. of '06. This spring it has taken very well, as it is very thick and lush. However, in the last couple weeks I have notice some areas that are brown or possibly even scorched.  These are in areas that receive sun most of the day.  Our June has been very wet, but the last week or so has been dry and hot. I water periodically and the sod was fertilized in early May. I get a lot of compliments on how green and thick the grass is, but lately there are some sick looking areas. What do I do...if anything...to the brown areas?

Answer
Hi Jim;
It could be a fertilizer burn or it could be a fungus.
Grab a habdful of the grass in the brown spots and tug on it.
If it is brown patch fungus, it should come up easily with little to no roots, and it will probably have a slick or slimy feel.
Apply Horticultural corn meal at the rate of about 10 pounds per 1000 sq.ft, and water it in.
That will kill the fungus.
I recommend switching to an organic program.
It scosts les money, requires a fraction of the labor, and you get much better results.
