How to revive a dead lawn

Question
Hi Tom,
We just bought a house four months ago and at that time, the lawn of about 700 sq feet was still green although it had lots of weed already.  Short of having a lawnmower at the time and lack of management, the lawn has turned entirely brown.  We just purchased a mower and want to make it "green" again.  Other than buying completely new sods ($ issue), what  can we do now to revive it so it becomes green again?  Should we water daily until new grass/weeds come up, how long will this take?
Thank you for your help!

Answer
Jenny:

First, is the house a new one or previously owned?  If new, the issue should be covered by guarantees.

I do not know where you live or what type of lawn you have.  This lack of knowledge makes any answer difficult.

You may wait and water to see what returns.  Replanting 700 sq. ft. may not be too expensive, even with sod.  That area is just shy of 80 sq. yards.

Seeding will not take much, if the lawn is the type to seed.

Best wishes.
