mulch on lawn

Question
We live in Austin, Texas and have bald spots on the lawn. We don't want to put dirt on the lawn because of our dogs.  But if we don't care about looks can we use Texas Native Hardwood mulch to throw over parts of the grass? Will this help it or kill it?

Answer
Well, it won't outright kill the grass, but it certainly won't help at all either. If you are looking to turn these bad patches into mulch beds, then okay. If you are looking to improve the grass, then this won't be helpful.

If looks don't matter that much to you, then I'd recommend doing whatever makes the most sense for you and the dogs.

Good luck!
