Growing an Organic Bermuda Lawn

Question
Hi C. J.,

I recently learn of organic lawns. I have a Louisiana lawn with every type of weed allowed. I am considering going organic.  One of the blogs advised that using sugar will promote a health lawn.

Is this true?
If I choose to use sugar, will it increase my potential of having more ant mounds?
Are there any organic products that will assist me in ridding my lawn of ants?

Answer
I recently learn of organic lawns. I have a Louisiana lawn with every type of weed allowed. I am considering going organic.  One of the blogs advised that using sugar will promote a health lawn.

1) Is this true? NO, it's a viral myth that I am constantly frustrated by. Don't waste your time with sugar. It won't hurt anything, but it won't do anything either.

2) If I choose to use sugar, will it increase my potential of having more ant mounds? I don't know about that, but as it won't help the grass, why bother?

3) Are there any organic products that will assist me in ridding my lawn of ants? Not that I'm aware of, unfortunately. There's lot's of products that may claim to do so, but the results consistently fail when put to scientific testing.

Good luck Lamar.

Sincerely,
C.J. Brown
