Growing Brown spot

Question
I live in Texas and have St Augustine grass  Even with the drought I have watered a lot lately and the majority of my yard is thick and very green.  I have a brown spot in my yard that is growing in somewhat of an oval pattern is now up to about four feet long and two feet wide.  It has been there for about three weeks now consistently growing despite watering constantly in that area thinking it was just lack of water; despite the rest of my yard being gorgeous.  I looked at it a few minutes ago pulled a tuft of it up and it came right up to the dirt.  I could pull it up as easily as picking up a leaf and what is left is nothing but the dirt underneath.  Please help me with a solution as I am a young first time homeowner and work very hard in my yard to keep it looking the best in the neighborhood.

Answer
If the grass blades pull out easily and are soft and soggy, the lawn is probably under attack by the brown patch fungus. If the grass can be picked up or rolled up like a carpet, then the problem is likely to be grubs.
Local laws might preclude you from treating either condition. Your safest bet is to check with you County Extension Agent.
