brown sago palms

Question
I planted 3 sago palms 3 years ago.  They are brown from the winter and look as though they are dying.  Will they come out again?  Do they need to be cut back or leaves cut off?  My husband died two weeks after moving here (South Carolina area) and I had hoped to get some life in my yard.

Answer
Hello Mildred
I'm very sorry to hear about your husband and your palm trees.

Cycad/Palm trees do tend to lose leaves from time to time but I fear that the winter temperatures together with some humidity probably did some damage.Cycad revoluta (sago palm) can withstand temperatures of down to minus 5癈 (or 23癋)

Watch out for northerly winds and morning sunshine, as this can urn leaves during the winter when they are wet from the night still.

Best of luck and let me know how you get on.
