Question
My backyard is black plastic with gravel ( golf ball size flat rock) instead of a grass lawn.(large area with a lot of traffic)  We have had it 10 years, but the plastic is wearing out & weeds are a constant battle.  I want to redo it, my question is what would be the best thing to put under the gravel?

Hey Teresa,

Get the contractor grade weed fabric.  It's really thick--the stuff it like canvas, its so strong.  It's a layer of fabric, then plastic fibers woven together.  Kind of expensive, but will definitely last.  Its often used under patios and walkways.  Expect to pay about $100 for a roll of it.  About 4' wide and 100' long.  I don't think Home Depot is going to have the right stuff.  I'm not sure where you're from but If you have a paver or flagstone supply place near you, I'd try there.
