decomposed granite pathway

Question
Hi Sean,
Thanks for the information on how to create a decomposed granite pathway http://en.allexperts.com/q/Landscaping-Design-724/2009/1/Decomposed-Granite-Path...
My garden has a slight inclination. You say the DG pathway inclination cannot be over 1" otherwise you'll want steps. Why? Will the DG not hold up?
Thanks a lot for your time.
Geraldine

Answer
My response says you should not exceed 1" of fall over 12" in run(length). So if you have a garden that is 10 feet long you'll not want to have more than 10" in grade change from one end to the other. This is not an absolute but rather a recommendation. Slopes exceeding 8-10% are generally better dealt with by adding a step or two as needed. But its purely up to you if you like a steep path you could build one up to 15-20% I suppose. Its up to you.

Good Luck
