Question
I have an area in the back of my house that is approximately 45 x 31 feet. I plan to remove all that is there at present and replace it with, as much as possible, the serenity of a Japanese garden I was privileged to see when in Japan many years ago. My question is simple. Where do I start. Can you recommend a place, on the Internet preferably, that I can see and choose features I like. And, if possible, can you recommend some must haves for a garden that I would like. Thank you for any assistance you may offer me.

Answer
Hi there!

A good place to find pictures of Japanese gardens on the internet would be the Japanese Gardens Database.

For your project, I would recomend you to start with simplicity.

In a Japanese Garden, there in no truer saying than "less is more".
Also, you should take into consideration the surrounding area, light, and natural features.

If you could send me pictures of the area, I could probably give you some ideas for your garden.

Keep in touch!

Carlo
