Installing a Trellis

Question
What is the best way to install a trellis next to a wall?  Do I need to put supports into the wall (if so, what should I use?), or do I put stakes deep into the ground, and fasten the trellis to the stakes?  I plan to train a climbing rose on it, so it should be fairly well anchored...thanks.....

Answer
Brooke,
I have installed metal or iron trellises as well as wooden ones. The metal trellis always have "legs" that go deeply into the ground.I would recommend that type. But the wooden ones should be anchored with concrete. You dig about a 1 foot trench and then mix some concrete mixture and pour this into the trench.Let it get a little thick before setiing in the trellis and anchor it to some long metal stakes on both sides securely until the concrete sets up.If it is going to be next to a wall then that should give it enough support. If you would like more support for it set up a ground anchor on both sides and tie it to these for extra support. For more info go to www.google.com and type in "setting up a trellis" to get more methods. Good luck to you on your new trellis!
