Backyard Landscape plan

Question
Hi,
Our backyard was a mess with ivy and some old grass. We removed the ivy completly. Now we are planning to have lawn with a curve shape.Around the lawn on three sides we are planning to have border garden with small flower plants. Then a side walk with stepping stone. After that an are towards the fence for trees and big plants.
My questions here.
1)Do you think it is good plan?
2)Will Borden garden need lot of attention?
3)What plants you suggest for border garden?
4)What kind of side walk you suggest.Easy and cheap.
5)Is it a good idea to have two layers of brick wall separating the side walk and the tree area?

Answer
Seema,

1. A garden is a form of creativity, have fun with it
2. Any garden needs attention 9weeding)
3. For a border,  Perennials: coneflower, coreopsis, hosta
4. The cheapest would be concrete.  This is an investment, so the cheapest is not the way to go.
5. It is you decision, how do you want it to look?
