sloping ground

Question
I'd like to plant a herb garden on steeply sloping ground. I think I've seen a material to hold the soil in place which was a sort of sheet of flexible material made of crossing strips so that it made a set of interlinked cells. If it exists, where could I get it ?

Answer
Hello Mike, sorry, I don't know of what you were referring to exactly. However, by far the best solution would be to terrace the ground using large rocks and then apply a gravel mulch straight after planting. Otherwise you will find that the soil will always erode and reveal any layers that you place to stop soil erosion- they don't work very well.

Use a plant like Iris as a soil stabiliser.

Good luck,
