Landscaping right after building a house

Question
We are building a house right now and my wife and I are planning on doing our own sod the week after we close but we were curious if we should wait to do the landscaping because of the shifting that may occur.  We were gonna use the larger landscaping bricks in the front of our house but weren't sure if we should give the earth some time to settle.  What do you think?

Answer
It all depends on how well the soil has been compacted. If its just hand tamped then yes it might settle, if a skid steer loader (bobcat, backhoe, etc) drove over it repeatedly or it was compacted with a plate compactor it may not settle much at all. A little settling behind a wall is typical over time  but may take a year or more to materialize. Sod usually doesn't get hurt by minor settling.

Good Luck,

Sean
