Best way to water

Question
I own an acre of land. I recently purchased about 13 trees and placed them randomly around the yard. I was thinking about digging a ditch from tree to tree and running a hose. I was going to put a barb with another hose In the main hose that lead to each tree well. Then hooking it up to a spicket. I was wondering if this is the best method, or if something else might work better.

Answer
Hey Amber, I hope this helps. You're on the right path. The only problem with doing what you're thinking about, is that the first trees closest to the spigot will get most of the water and at the end you will get very little. The best and easiest thing to install is a simple drip system. You can buy a 500' roll of 5/8" poly pipe for about $25.00 to $30.00. You can also put a y tee off your spigot, with an on and off switch, and hook a filter and regulator directly to this, and still be able to use a hose on the spigot. Just run the poly pipe close to each tree. Then from the poly pipe run 4 small 1/4" tubing around the tree. At the ends of the tubing, you will install an emmitter ( these come in sizes from 1 to 10 gallons per minute). At the last tree, you will install a cap on the end of the poly pipe. I would check with a local building supply store, hardware store, or irrigation supply store, they could help you out. You could do something simple for less than $100.00. Also it is better on your trees to water slowly, but deeply. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks and have a great day.
