tomato preparation

Question
Hello, it's hit spring in Australia and I'm about to start growing tomatoes.  I ended up with a bit of blossom-end rot last season (my first go), so I'm wondering if there's a way to 'prepare' the soil before I transplant the seedlings (e.g. with calcium) so it reduces the risk this time?

I also have a question about my oleander plant.  All my plants are on a large balcony and I tend to separate the flowers and the vegetables; however, I know that oleanders are poisonous - is there any way the oleander flowers could affect the tomatoes?

Thanks!

Re: blossom end rot, add lime to the bed or even to each planting hole. Also, be sure that your watering pattern is consistent, and do not let the soil dry out, at least up until the point that most tomatoes are ripening.

The only way to be poisoned by the oleander is to eat it, but if they are planted in the same planter as the tomatoes, just be sure that they need the same soil conditions as tomatoes - I don't know anything about growing them.
