Gladiola Centerpieces

Question
My sister is getting married at the end of this summer.  She wants dramatic centerpieces and wants to use gladiolas.  I will be using tall 24" pilsner vases with a 5" opening.  I plan to use a lomey dish on top with oasis foam.  What should the diameter be for the lomey dish if the vase has a 5" opening?  Also, I was wondering if glads would sit well in the oasis foam, considering they are heavy flowers with a thick stem?  Thank you so much in advance for any advice you can give.

Answer
Unless the base of the vase is VERY heavy, and the oasis is VERY securely mounted, the centerpiece will topple with the weight of the flowers.  You will have better luck if you fill the vase with glass pebbles or something of the kind.  The diameter of the vase isn't as important and the overall size of the vase.  To do a big dramatic arrangement of Glads I would say you need at least a 14" heavy glass vase with additional weight added.  No only will something smaller not be heavy enough, it wont have the height necessary to put the flowers into scale.  Good luck!
