Vines?

Question
QUESTION: Hi,

I'm trying to grow a vine (any flowering vine, I've never gardened before, but I want to grow one for an upcoming event) indoors. Any recommendations for plant and setup?

Thanks,
Elizabeth

ANSWER: There isn't enough information for me to give you a solid answer. I would have to guess.
I need to know how much light the plant will receive? How big the container is? How large the vine needs to be? When you would like it to bloom? What color? And any other information you can give me.

QUESTION: Hi,

Sorry for the vagueness. I want it to grow to be 4-6 feet  within a month, and flower within that month as well, if that is possible. Light and container size are variables but a 1 gallon container will probably be my maximum. And color--maybe pink? or white? or yellow? To clarify--I'm an artist working on a sculpture and I have constructed a 4 ft trellis I would like the vine to grow in and around.

Thanks for your help!

Elizabeth

Answer
This is a very difficult one, because, in order to produce flowers the vine will need to be in full sun outside. There are foliage vines that will grow indoors, but none that will flower. So, it seems the best way to have your vine do what you want it to, is to grow it out in the sun and bring it in after it blooms, or buy it already blooming, or use an artificial flowering vine.
I picture a clematis as the most artistic 4 to 6 foot vine. It comes in the colors you mentioned and is easy to grow. I would have a five gallon container for it, and very good potting soil. Keep the container cool and the plant in full sun all day.
A month is not a lot of time for a plant to grow and produce flowers. You may want to rethink planting a vine, and look for a nice silk vine that looks real.
