Hummingbirds – Feeding in Winter

Q: It is almost December and I still have a stubborn little hummingbird coming to my feeder. I had taken it in until I saw this little fellow at the window wanting to know where it was. My questions are: Do we have hummingbirds that winter here? Should I leave the feeder out all winter and if so, how do I keep the sugar water from freezing?

A: Yes – hummingbirds do stay out over winter here, so you can go ahead and keep the feeder outside. The sugar in the water keeps it from freezing so no problem there.
