Frogs – Buying

Q: My dad has returned to live on the farm he grew up on in eastern Kentucky. He is a man of few wants but recently he has been complaining about the lack of frogs on the farm now. There is an active creek on the property so I was wondering if it is possible to order some baby frogs for his house-warming gift?

A: As a father, I appreciate anyone doing anything to please their pater. Carolina Biological sells frog eggs and tadpoles. You could have them shipped to Kentucky. If you are traveling to visit your father soon, ask among your pool-owning friends if they often find frog eggs in their pool. Most will answer in the affirmative. You can collect the eggs and take them with you in the time-honored transport method: a quart jar.
