Damask perpetual rose (Rosa 'Rose de Rescht') ROE-sah Genus:  Rosa This compact rose has fragrant, fuschia-red flowers packed with petals that fade to purple as they age. It grows up to 4 feet high and 3 feet wide, and blooms from spring to fall.  Noteworthy Characteristics:  Damask perpetual roses are the hardiest, most disease-resistant of the repeat-blooming antique roses. They contribute fragrance, vigor, and a long flowering season to the mixed border. A compact, tidy habit makes them suitable for small gardens.  Care:  Grow in fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Provide good air circulation and remove fallen leaves to help prevent disease. After flowering, prune lightly or back by up to 1/3, reducing side shoots by 2/3. To renovate, prune one in four shoots from the base and trim the rest back by 1/3. Propagation:  Take softwood cuttings when bloom initiates in spring to summer; take hardwood cuttings in fall.
