Chinese pistache (Pistacia chinensis)

Trees

• Deciduous
• Climate zones 4-16, 18-23, 26, 28-33
• Full sun
• Moderate to little water
• Growth rate: moderate

A reliable choice for street, lawn, patio, or garden, Chinese pistache forms a broadly rounded tree 30 to 60 feet tall and nearly as wide. Its foot-long leaves consist of 10 to 16 paired dark green leaflets. It has good orange to red fall color even in mild climates and tolerates a wide range of soils, including alkaline types. Very drought tolerant once established.

Stake young trees; once they are established, prune to develop a head high enough to walk under.
