Growing Franklinia alatamaha (Franklin Tree)

Growing Franklinia alatamaha (Franklin Tree)

Pronunciation: frank-lin'-ee-ah

Franklinia's upright, spreading branches create an open airy appearance. This handsome specimen tree or large shrub is valued for lovely Camellia-like, fragrant white flowers in summer and red foliage in autumn.

Light/Watering: Grow in full sun or partial shade. A layer of mulch will help keep the soil moist in summer and fall.

Fertilizer/Soil and pH: Grows best in acid (pH 5-6), well-drained soil with plenty of organic material.

Pests/Diseases: Although generally pest and disease-free, Japanese beetles may occasionally be a problem.
