Fascinating Facts about Ants

Have you ever watched ants closely? They are one of the most fascinating insects. These amazingly hard-working insects are very social hence you won’t see an ant live on their own. There are some interesting facts about ants that will amaze you. Ants are undoubtedly the strongest among insects as they can carry 20 times their body weight. If you want to learn about team work, then ants can be your best teachers as they are excellent in team work. They can carry extremely heavy objects by working together.

It’s surprising how ants have very similar qualities to humans. It’s said that an ant’s mushroom shaped brain is the largest among all insects and their functions are quite similar to that of humans. Now this explains why they seem more human than insects!

What can’t ants do? They cultivate, care for their young ones, educate them, they raise an armed force, they have strict security rules, they are excellent engineers, they have a good sense of social planning, have food controlling ability and so on. Aren’t they more like humans? Now this is indeed some of the few fascinating facts about ants!

If you watch a trail of ants closely, you’ll know how hard-working they are and most of all how well-organized and clean these amazing insects can be. Their nests are supposed to be very tidy and neat as they have worker ants that throw off rubbish and dump them in a special place meant for rubbish.

The young ones are looked after just like humans would look after their children. The worker ants move the larvae deep in the nests during nights to protect them from cold and then bring them back to the top of the nest during day to get them warmer.

Not only that, they also teach young ones the tricks of the trade. They teach them how to use their sense of smell to look out for food, how to carry them back to the nest and so on. Sometimes you may see a lone ant wandering about. This is a worker ant sent by the colony to look out for food. Once it finds a good source of food it leaves a scented trail for other ants to follow and find the food.
