USES FOR WOODEN GARDEN SHEDS

I can tell you that I have not come up with all of the many uses you can put your wooden garden shed to but I will discuss the ones I have seen and what I have used my garden sheds for over the years. I do believe that once you have decided to build your wooden garden shed you will find many more uses than you thought of once you get it built. This will in all likelihood lead you to build additional garden/storage sheds.

USE YOUR WOODEN GARDEN SHED FOR TOOL STORAGE  – I used my first garden shed as a storage shed for all of my lawn and garden tools and equipment. I also kept all of my hoses, sprinklers, ladders, extension cords, fertilizer etc. in this shed. It was gambrel style shed that looked like a little barn. At another property I built a smaller version that was 6’ x 8’ and it was nothing but tool storage. I lined the walls with racks and all of the shovels, hoes, etc. went in to this shed. I also stored my push lawn mower in this shed. So wooden garden sheds make for great tool storage sheds.

USE YOUR WOODEN GARDEN SHED AS A POTTING SHED – If you garden at all you will soon want a potting shed complete with a potting bench and shelves to store all of your gardening essentials. There is just too many things you use in a garden to be able to just store these in your garage or a storage box. I especially like potting sheds to be able to store chemicals and fertilizers out of the way of the children that come to visit. With all of the pots, containers, trays, seeds, hand tools etc. you need a place all your own for the gardening in your life. I also have seen many potting sheds with a fiberglass panel for part of the roof section or side wall to allow some plant growing. This works especially well in the spring to be able to get seeds and start your plants indoor.

USE YOUR WOODEN GARDEN SHED AS A HOBBY SHED – One of my wooden garden sheds was built especially for my woodworking hobby. My garage was too full and dusty to allow me to properly finish my woodworking projects so I built a wooden garden shed and finished the inside with sheetrock and put in a linoleum floor. With the walls and ceiling painted dust control was a breeze and this was one of my favorite sheds. I even installed electric ceramic ceiling heaters and could use the garden shed year round. This was important for me because I did most of my woodworking in the snowy months.

USE YOUR WOODEN GARDEN SHED AS DRY STORAGE – It always seems like you need dry storage for either your belongings or some of your children’s belongings. I have built several wooden garden sheds just for this purpose. If you take what you spend on a rental storage shed in one year you can probably get your wooden garden shed built for that amount. Then after your first year the storage is free. At least this is the way I looked at it. I even built 4 units in one building each with a separate door and enclosed spaces for my kids. Each one had their own storage locker this way and boy did they fill up fast. Golf clubs, sporting items, hunting and fishing items, car parts etc. all ended up in their sheds but at least my garage was clear of all of their stuff.

USE YOUR WOODEN GARDEN SHED FOR A MINI GREENHOUSE – I took off the siding and roofing of an older storage shed on my property and replaced the roofing and siding with fiberglass panels. I then installed a gas heater and had an instant greenhouse I could use all year. I did have to install an exhaust fan as they will heat up in a hurry even in early spring. The solar effect is unbelievable. I loved this greenhouse and used it for many years until we moved. As mentioned earlier you don’t have to make the whole wooden garden shed a greenhouse. You can make half of the garden shed a greenhouse and the other half as a potting shed. This gives you the best of both worlds.

USE YOUR WOODEN GARDEN SHED AS A CABANA – I left one side off of a garden shed I had planned and turned it into an outdoor bar/cabana. I put in a wood top for a bar area and we used this for a cabana/bar for years.

USE YOUR WOODEN GARDEN SHED AS A HOME OFFICE – I have seen many wooden garden sheds finished off and used for a home office. This is a great way to get peace and quiet and to keep the house uncluttered with your office materials.
