The Papaver Laciniatum - Fringed Poppy and Garden Beauty

The Papaver Laciniatum – Fringed Poppy and Garden Beauty

The Papaver Laciniatum is commonly referred to as a fringed or pompom Poppy is a variation of the common Poppy that graces many a garden. This is an annual Poppy which rivals the beauty of many more traditional flowers and is far more forgiving than some in terms of weather and soil conditions. Moreover for those who live in climates where there is insufficient cold weather to properly grow such beauties as the tulip, the Poppy family will thrive and rival even the tulip in grace and beauty.

The Papaver Laciniatum is a gorgeous Poppy with a multitude of soft feathery petals and an elegant medium tall plant body the flower is reminiscent of pompoms and fit to beautify any outdoor area. Poppies can be seen in gardens all over Europe, Asia and the US and though the narcotic properties of processed seeds are well known their ornamental and culinary uses are what these plants are grown for most.

If you don't want volunteer poppies the next year then deadhead the flowers. This can not only encourage it to produce more flowers but if you are persistent then it will also keep those gorgeous plants from popping up in the same spot next year. This is especially useful if you discover they are too tall or short for their current location or you are rearranging your garden area to even better display these gorgeous flowers.

These lovely annuals need at least 6 hours a day of full sun and must be watered regularly but not drenched.  Poppies are not terribly fussy about their soil type but the soil must have drainage, densely packed clay soils should be aerated and mulched to provide proper drainage.

Poppies have a rich history and have been used traditionally for medicinal purposes, ornamental purposes and culinary purposes as well. Poppy seeds oil l is tasty, has no narcotic properties and is very high in vitamin E. However, the Papaver Laciniatum is far more useful for its beauty in most people's opinion.

The Papaver Laciniatum grows from 2 to 4 ft high (60.96cm - 121.92cm) which makes it a medium tall plant suitable for placement either in the mid row or back of the garden area and excellent for gardens around the building wall.

Once you try growing Papaver Laciniatum poppies you may never go back to other perennial varieties of flowers. They are eye catching, relatively disease and fungus resistant (provided you give them the right soil) and very home loving (don't try and pick them up and move them once planted they don't like it).

They bloom during mid summer and even in a busy garden the Papaver Laciniatum Poppy will catch the eye of every passerby and the make you the envy of every other neighborhood gardener. You won't want to hide these beauties in the back lawn put them out front where those fringed beauties can dance and wave to everyone!  Though the Papaver Laciniatum might be described as a common garden Poppy there is nothing common about its beauty.
