Decking: Enjoy The Beauty Of Your Garden

Garden decking is an art being performed in the field of gardening. It is a useful and nice addition to your garden. If you do not have decking, you cannot enjoy the pleasure and beauty of the garden up close and if you are using your garden without decking, you are spoiling your own garden. Sounds strange? But it's true. Decking is a very important part of the garden.

There are several different ways to construct decking and according to your preferences, you can make use of different decking materials.

While preparing garden decking, you need to consider a few important points.

In every garden, it is inevitable to have a floored area and a path as well. Path is preferred because it lets you walk through the garden without stepping on the grass. Grass is damaged if you walk on it often. Although concrete patio is a common practice, it is going out of style. And it still reminds of a concrete civilization instead of giving you the feeling of being closer to nature.

Among various other options of decking materials, the most popular is the wooden decking. According to your convenience, you can choose the method of laying a wooden decking. Either you can lay it straight on the grass (using special isolation to protect the construction from moisture) or you can lay it over the top of an existing patio.

To create your own decking, you need to use things like decking boards, timbre joists, decking screws, saw, hammer, nails, joists hanger etc.

First, you have to plan the deck area and check its level using spirit level and timber joists. Then make a frame of the size of the area you have selected. Fix it to the support posts, which should be well fixed into the ground. Now place timber joists in the frame parallel to each other. Fix them to the frame, using joist hangers. To prevent weeds from growing under decking, place a plastic membrane on the ground.

Now it is time to place decking boards, at right angle to the timber joists. Keep a gap of 3mm in all the boards. As this is a wooden decking, you need to protect it from water, sunlight and mould. For this, you need to treat it with decking stain and preserver products. There is variety of such products available in the market and it gives you many options to choose the colour you like or the strength with which it works.

You can easily do your own decking if you have proper skills, tools and know-how to choose the proper materials. Remember, it should be strong enough to act like an outdoor living area.

But if you want to try your DIY skills, having no practice and experience, it may be a rather risky enterprise. It's always better to take advice from any good professional decking company. They can also provide decking materials for you at reasonable prices. It may spare you a lot of time, money and even frustration which you may experience. Choose wisely.
