Keeping Your Pets and Family Safe from Ticks

I think it is safe to say that ticks are nasty little buggers that no one wants to have around or even have in their sight. Ticks are parasites that do nothing more than latch onto an unsuspecting victim, bite them and drink their blood until the tick is bloated and falls off. I think it is safe to say that ticks are nasty little buggers that no one wants to have around or even have in their sight. Ticks are parasites that do nothing more than latch onto an unsuspecting victim, bite them and drink their blood until the tick is bloated and falls off.

As if that was not bad enough, ticks can, and often do, transmit diseases. They do so through their saliva, which they use to keep the blood from coagulating. They’re also difficult to remove, and if not done properly, can lead to infections. Here in New Jersey there are a lot of ticks that can linger in long grasses and in trees.

Ticks need to go. Plain and simple. The difficulty is that ticks can be brought in by a number of creatures. If they aren’t already naturally lingering in your lawn or trees, they may drop off of anything from rabbits to birds to raccoons. Any animal trundling through your yard may leave a tick behind. The tick can then latch onto a pet or a person the next time it gets hungry – not something anyone wants to happen. One of the most unsettling things is that you may not even realize there is a tick on you until you see it or feel it. Pets are more difficult due to the amount of fur they have.

While you can give your pets over the counter or veterinarian approved treatments that will deter or kill ticks (and fleas), there isn’t exactly a treatment for people. So what can you do when ticks decide they’d like to take over your yard? You bring in the professionals.

Pest control technicians don’t like ticks any more than you do and will be more than happy to help you get rid of them. There are four types of ticks here in New Jersey; the American dog tick, brown dog tick, lone star tick, and the deer tick. The deer tick is the one primarily responsible for transmitting Lyme disease, so pest control companies are well aware of the importance of wiping these ticks out.

Ross Environmental Solutions takes things a step further by looking to environmentally friendly methods of taking care of any tick problem. Ultimately this means less or no poisons or chemicals to you and your family, all the while ticks are driven out of the area. We can also offer you excellent tips and suggestions on how to keep ticks from returning or deterring them from your area. This includes cutting lawns short, trimming or removing excessive shrubbery, cutting low hanging tree branches, and other things. This reduces tick environments and places that they can hide. We can also treat home spaces, and if you have any tick-related questions we’d be more than happy to answer them.

When you feel more comfortable knowing about ticks and then knowing that we’ve taken care of the problem, you will be able to enjoy your summer without constantly worrying about them. Tick control is an invaluable move that should be taken into consideration for the safety of your family (both two-legged and four-legged!).
