Keeping The Pests Away From Your Dome Greenhouse

It is easy to fall in love with a dome greenhouse especially through its beauty alone. Once you actually see it, you will develop a great urge to build a greenhouse of your own – as this is the only way to pacify the prodding. It can actually get you on a hyperactive level considering the feast you will look forward to once you have started growing plants in your dome. However, you’re not the only one who’s excited – even the bugs and every insect you can find in your area are excited too.

So, how do you keep the pests away from your dome greenhouse? Yes, prevention will always be better than curing and this is the best solution to keep the insects away from your precious plants.

Minimize Placing Lights

Install lights only in places where they are absolutely necessary and don’t switch them on unless you need them – but keep them off whenever possible. If you probably notice, pests are attracted to lights when they are on in the same way that we’re attracted to stars at night. Using more than you actually need them for will actually put your plants in danger of pest infestation since they will feed on your plants.

Trouble with Lighted Insect Traps

Unless you are absolutely sure how to set up lighted insect traps in your dome greenhouse, there is no need for you to mess up with this type of trap because as previously mentioned insects are attracted to lights. And, if these traps are not properly shaded, they will actually attract more insects than they can actually trap making them useless aspects of your planting and growing experience.

Weed Out Regularly

It is absolutely necessary for gardeners to keep weeds out from their gardens and this is also true in a dome greenhouse. Weeds tend to harbor insects and they become hosts, which could lead to various diseases that will infect your precious plants. Obviously, no gardener will want this to happen to them. So, it is important that you keep the weeds out to avoid getting pests on your plants.

Keep Margins

You could set up adequate margins – at least three feet wide – around the dome. Make sure the margin is unplanted so that it would be harder for pests to crawl through if they are not close enough to the dome greenhouse. You can set wider margins but three feet wide is the lowest that you could get. This is the most ideal condition when trying to keep the pests away.

Following these simple tips can make significant difference when growing plants in dome greenhouses. It adds precautionary measures against common bugs found in your area.
