Protect your crops from the Frost

Plants are very important part of everybody's lives. They serve the environment in a wide number of ways possible. They provide beauty, food and many other spiritual and emotional connects that are the essential components every human being's life. It is important to maintain and care for them all through life.

Using of crops for the benefit of mankind has sort of become a routine today. Seems selfish, but it's true! Plant breeding is the phenomenon of adapting and at times manipulating the genetics of plants and using them for the benefits of mankind. There are several breeder services that carry this procedure. The overall objective of breeding is to make the maximum of the crop's quality and diversity to the best use of herbs and other useful products for mankind. This is practised ever since the onset of civilisation of the flora.

For the appropriate and correct breeding of your crops, it is important to realise what works best and what doesn't for your crops. Gardens and nurseries need some extra care in winters. Depending upon your location, you should know how to protect the plant from frost. It is good to be safe than sorry!

There are several plant protection ways to choose from. Just remember to consider the amount and direction of the wind blowing. Heavy winds tend to destroy whatever protection you would choose (If it is not fixed firmly). Also, it creates a wind chill and that can have harmful effects on some susceptible crops.

Damage by cold occurs mostly during the nights when there is a drastic decrease in the temperature. Such type of climatic conditions are most challenging to maintain all the types of plants but especially those with small leaves. One of the most primary ways to prevent the crop from the frost is to try and relocate the crop indoors to a hotter place compared to the outdoors if that is a feasible option.

You can choose one frost fabric rip off cover from the many available n the market. They insulate the area around the crop and prevent the freezing of the cells. This cover should be wrapped nicely around it and attached to the ground firmly. Remember to remove it during day time so that maximum sunlight is received by the crop. Such covers are porous (allow moisture to enter).

A heavy thermal blanket is also used at times to cover the plant from getting freeze during the cold climate. It is mostly similar to a rip off cover, just a bit heavier and more protective in nature. It works by trapping the captured heat inside the blanket and creating a kind of 'frost-free' environment for the crops. Once it is made sure that is properly tied to the ground, it will also provide a protection against the harsh chilly winds.

Both, the thermal blankets and the rip off covers can be removed and stored in a separate place when not in use.
Another strong way to protect the crops from the bad climate is the cold frames. They are portable and can be fixed and removed with utmost ease. They work wonders in saving your garden crops from the extreme cold winds. They are a transparent enclosed space kind of structures, (Something like a small greenhouse) that covers the plant. They let the light in and trap it inside, and prevent the winds from harming the crop; making the plant's environment almost 'frost free'.
