What About The New Organic Nutrient Lines For Indoor Gardens

I have noticed the recent influx of new organic nutrients marketed to indoor gardeners. It's exciting see companies are producing products formulated especially for indoor gardens, because plants are more dependent on the gardener's than outdoor gardens. I am not implying that outdoor gardener's don't have as much responsibility. Only that the focus points are a bit different.

Indoor gardens get no help from the weather or natural nutrients levels that occur in outdoor environments. Any who have maintained indoor gardens knows it is somewhat difficult ensuring that adequate light and consistent nutrient ratios within the soil is something that needs constant monitoring and managing.

Add the twist of organic growing and it can get stressful at times. There was a recent article in the news about some companies releasing organic nutrient lines specifically for hydroponic systems which sounds good, but I will be waiting for others to try these products out before I mess with my carefully crafted nutrient mix.

Hydroponic growing is maddening in the beginning as you try to figure out the magic mix for your personal setup and I doubt organic nutrients will be able to produce the same results that I get now. I also worry about the shelf life of the organic nutrients lines. For small hydro gardens like mine, I need a pretty long shelf life unless I suddenly get rich and can afford to buy in smaller quantities as opposed to discounted bulk prices.

On the other hand, it is appealing to think about creating less harsh wastewater on the environment where I discard it. A big part of the reason I garden is greener living and organic nutrients should help me do that. The second issue I have with the new organic lines is the price. I understand organic lines normally have a shorter shelf life and the cost to the seller is higher and makes mine higher too. It seems to me that the first price points I am seeing would make my gardening too rich for my wallet. Hopefully, there will be a large interest in these new lines and increase competition.

For organic growing, my Earthbox containers are hard to beat. The design and setup of the Earthbox containers actually makes the organic nutrients produce better results. I am not a scientist or gardening "expert", so I have no real explanation for why this phenomenon exists. I just know it does.

In fact, my organic Earthboxes are outperforming my other organic plants by a large margin. I have seen about a 30% increase in fruit size in my fruit bearing veggies. My greens have more flavor too. If I had to guess, I would bet their vitamin levels are higher too. Maybe one day I will get it tested.

I think we should all keep our eyes on these new organic lines, but in the mean time, invest in a winner gardening system like Earthbox or another proven indoor garden system.
