3 Stink Bug Pest Control Tips

Many people reporting to have a stink bug infestation claim the numbers to be mind boggling. It seems when these critters get out of control they simply take over an area. This can be devastating if the area happens to be your front porch.

While the stink bug is relatively harmless it is a most annoying pest. When agitated it lets of a puff of stench. When infestation numbers reach in the hundreds and even thousands you can imagine just how annoying this little pest can be.

The stink bug is attracted to light. This is why most infestations happens around doors and windows. The problem with this is the can easily get into the house. Turning off outside lights at night is a good idea. If you are worried about animals and other predator a motion detection light can easily be installed. By turning off the lights you will be forcing the bugs to find a new home. You should start to see a reduction in numbers over a few weeks.

If you are still having a problem you could try planting some sunflowers. Sunflowers are a great way to attract sink bugs to a new location. Planting is extremely easy, just throw down seeds and water. You should select a variety of seeds to insure they bloom late into the season. Also remember to plant them in an unused location of your yard. If you currently have sunflowers growing up near your home, you should consider cutting them down immediately.

The last tip is the fastest and will produce quick results but keep in mind it is a bit stinky. Get a garden spray bottle from your local gardening or home improvement supply store. Blend one and a half cups water and one whole garlic in your blender to a pulp. Strain mixture into spray bottle and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Shake well and spray mixtures around doors and windows.

If you having this problem in your garden you may want to think about the plants which are most effected and why they are being effected. The best way to control pests is by creating a balance in the plant life around your home. Before using organic pest control stink bugs please be sure to check out the balance in your garden. Organic bug killer should only be used for short term infestations and even then in sparing amounts only over a short period of time.
