The great thing about slabs is that there are so many economical choices to work with. What's more, there is no right or wrong in terms of functionality for usability. Choosing the right slab is more or less an exercise in personal preference.
We sell slabs in three different categories: pressed flag, riven, and textured. All three offer the opportunity to create a unique look every guest to your home will appreciate time and again. So which do you choose for your application? Let's take a look at all three.
Pressed Flag Slabs
This type of slab is the most commonly used in England because it is the least expensive and most versatile. It is a slab of concrete pressed flat by a hydraulic press. The manufacturing process makes each piece uniform throughout an entire run, so it's easy to get a consistent look along your entire path or driveway. And depending on where you purchase from, you can get pressed flags in a variety of colours.
If you are looking for a clean look that goes with just about any landscaping and architecture, a pressed flag slab will be a good choice. They are easy to install, easy to work with, and very affordable. Ours come in two sizes options: 900 x 600 x 50 and 600 x 600 x 50. For now, our only colour option is grey.
Riven Slabs
The word 'riven' is used in stonework and masonry to describe a piece of rock that has been separated by striking or splitting. When rock is quarried in this way, it creates a unique texture and surface on the exposed plane. Many people love this sort of slab because it offers a natural and rustic look. It certainly is a beautiful product for any home project that you want to be memorable.
Riven slabs come in a variety of thicknesses depending on which company you purchase them from. We offer grey and buff slabs in two sizes: 600 x 600 x 38 and 450 x 450 x 40. When it's time to install, you'll be pleased to know that achieving a perfect evenness across your entire project is not necessary. In fact, the beauty of riven slab is that it is expected to be uneven to some extent.
Textured Slabs
The textured slab gives you the best of both worlds in a single product. Like the pressed flag, the textured slab is a poured concrete product that is pressed with a special plate to give it a unique texture. And like the river slab, that texture really enhances the overall look of your pathway or drive.
Our textured slabs come in three colours including red, charcoal, and buff. We also offer three size options: 600 x 600 x 38, 600 x 300 x 38, and 300 x 300 x 38.
When ordering slabs, also be sure to order sand and aggregate to lay down as a base. You will need both to create a firm foundation and fill in the cracks between each slab.
