knock out roses that dont bloom

Question
I live in Columbus, OH.  This is the 3rd year for my knock out roses.  The last 2 years they bloomed prolifically. This year they get buds that dry up.  I use Bayer 2 in 1 for Roses twice a season and spray with Seven occasionally.  What is the problem?

Answer
Usually the main reason a rose bush doesn't bloom is because something has damaged the buds when thy were starting to form. A nasty cold snap in the spring will do it. Then you have to wait until they put out new buds before they bloom which takes about 3 to 4 weeks. The other reason a rose doesn't bloom is because a tiny insect called a rose midge has laid eggs at the base of the rose bud and when they hatch, the larvae eat and kill the buds. You can see a tiny little hole at the base of
the buds if that is the problem. The eggs are hard to get at but the larvae should be easier with your Bayer 2 in 1 spray.
