sick roses

Question
I have about 10 rose bushes and they are usually beautiful with bloom all summer but this year I don't think there were a total of a dozen roses between all of them. Yellow and brown leaves, what leaves there where. Now, my question is, what needs to be done to get them back in shape again. And should it be done now?

Thank you so much for your help

JN

Answer
hi
you don't mention how old they are.
The older they are the less they will bloom and eventually will have to be replaced.
The exception is certain heirloom roses which can grow up o 100 years!
I am guessing you bought these recently
say within the last 5 years?
last 10 years?

at 5 years they are at a good age to bloom. You should  feed them every year with
compost
rock dust
organic roses fertilizer
mulch

prune them back every winter to old growth.

use a drip system to keep water below the mulch.

learn to foliar feed them

at 10 years
I would do a heavy prune, feed like above, do foliar applications and if they still do not do well replace by next year.

hope this helps you

love
