Container garden growing mushrooms

Question
I have an outside container garden w/various flowers in it.  This morning I noticed that several yellow mushroom have popped up on one side.  Is there anything I can do to be rid of them?

Thanks for your help.

Answer
Debbe,

Mushrooms are the visual clue that there is a large mass of organic material being broken down and returned to the soil. The "root", or mycelium that mushrooms are the "fruit" of cannot, and in my opinion should not, be controlled. My advice, if the mushrooms are too repugnant to look at, is to pick them off and throw them in the trash. The mycelium will continue to do it's business, and in a few years the "food supply" will be exhausted, thereby eliminating the mushrooms.
