Hydrangeas

Question
Does the soil acidity affect the color of the flower?

Answer
Hi Angela, Yes, with many varieties it does. Very acidic soils cause flowers to be blue or purple.  As the pH rises, many turn pink.  It's the available aluminum that causes the change.  Some of the newer varieties are fairly stable and only slight differences, if any, are noticeable. Jim
