Planting Flower Bulbs

Question
Hello.  My question is about planting bulbs.  Today (Tuesday) I finished digging about 400 holes to plant tulip and daffodil bulbs.  There is light rain forecast for Thursday.  I was thinking of placing the bulbs in the holes Wednesday, waiting until the rain ends Thursday (not sure how much there would be) and then filling in the holes, to ensure the bulbs get some moisture six inches deep and also to avoid going from hole to hole with a hose flooding them with water if it's going to rain anyway.

Do you see any problems with this plan?  Thanks.

Edward

Answer
Hi Edward, My preference would be to fill the holes at planting.  One reason is your soil will be drier and will settle around the bulb better.  The other reason is to keep rodents from getting the bulbs.
I'd just fill in the holes and let nature take its course.  If you are getting rain every few days, they'll get enough, you shouldn't have to hand water them.  The back-filled soil will be very loose and any decent rain will reach the bulbs.
If neither of the above concerns are an issue with you, then your plan is fine. The end results in the spring will be the same: 400 bulbs will make quite a show.  Jim
