7 sisters rose

Question
I found a 7 sisters rose at my parents home which I bought. My Dads favorite. It is barely alive and in a shaded area next to a masive water oak.I want to move it to a sunny spot.It is only about 3' tall and has only 14 leaves. Looks really bad. How deep should I dig, best time to move? type of soil?  and I'd like to purchase several more. This rose survived when the other 16 did not. Thank you for your help. Denise

Answer
Hi Denise,

If you can, wait until the plants go dormant- after several hard frosts.  I would try to get at least 18" X 18" root ball when you dig.  This is overkill but since it is stressed by the oak, you want every root  and less shock when you move it. Have your new hole filled with a shovel full of composted cow manure and the same amount of peat moss.

You can find those very easy.  Roses Unlimited has good 'own root' roses they they ship.

Good luck,

Jay
