Question
Is it clematis or clamatis or both? I am aware of clematis - I have
about 5 of them climbing up various trellis. I saw in the local paper
about a lady and her clamatis (but to me it looked like a clematis)

Thanx for your question.  Sounds like someone misspelled the word.  It is clematis.  It is pronounced a number of different ways.  Phonetics are shown below:

clem' uh tis
cluh may' tis
cluh ma' (as in mad) tis

I think somoene just spelled it the way they pronounce it.
