non blooming clematis vines


Question
HI, I BOUGHT TWO BEAUTIFUL CLEMAIS VINES WITH LOVELY SMALL PINK STAR
LIKE FLOWERS.  I HAVE PLANTED THEM IN THE SUN ACCORDING TO
DIRECTIONS AND THEY ARE CLIMBING BEAUTIFULLY BUT ARE NOT FLOWERING
ANYMORE.. I WAS TOLD THEY WILL FLOWER THRU SUMMER TIL THE FALL... I
HAVE FED THEM BUT STILL NO FLOWERS..WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING
WRONG... ALL MY OTHER FLOWERS ARE DOING WONDERFUL... PLEASE HELP

Hi Jan,
Thanx for your question.  Two things could be going on here.  Check your fertilizer.  Is it high in nitrogen?  If it is then all you're going to get is green growth.  Use Rose food (fertilizers for roses) for clematis vines.  The other thing is that sometimes it takes a flowering vine or shrub a while to get used to it's new surroundings after the shock of transplant.  The plant may appear sturdy and even growing but is still suffering from shock.  This late into the summer, it may not go back to flowering until next year but it is perfectly alright.  I hope this helps.
