new or old bulbs?

Question
I was wondering what orchids bloom on new and which on old growth and if any will rebloom ? thanks for any info

Answer
Tom, most orchids bloom only on new growth.  The two exceptions are orchids that put out new growth without blooming until conditions are right for blooming.  They may not bloom for two or more years.  When blooming conditions are right, all previously unbloomed, mature growths may bloom.  The second exception are some species dendrobiums or hybrids from these species that bloom only on old growths. Most of these are Australian or New Guinea species. They also tend to be deciduous, losing their leaves after they mature.
