madagascar palm-slender leaves

Question
we have a two foot madagascar palm that went into domancy and dropped it leaves.  a few months later, it began to sprout its leaves again and we noticed the leaves turning black on the ends and eventually falling off. the plants top is still green so we know it is still alive. could we have a fungus infestation or other diseases? can you help us, we really love this plant and hate to loose it due our lack of experice with the plant's care.

Answer
John,

It could be a fungus, in which case spray it with Lysol aerosol spray every other day for 3 weeks. Make sure you get the tops and b ottoms of all leaves if it has any.

However, it sounds more like overwatering. It needs to dry out totally between waterings. Watering evry 2 weeks now andy ever 3 weeks in winter is plenty. Have you transplanted it recently?  If so let me know the diameter of the pot it came out of and the diameter of the pot it went into. Don't let it swtay wet for any long length of time.

Good luck.

Darlene
